Miles Bridges to Suns: Hornets Continue Roster Overhaul in Major NBA Trade

The Charlotte Hornets have continued their aggressive offseason rebuild by agreeing to trade veteran forward Miles Bridges to the Phoenix Suns in a blockbuster deal that reshapes both franchises.

According to league sources, Charlotte will send Bridges along with a 2029 first-round draft pick and a 2027 second-round selection to Phoenix. In return, the Hornets will receive Grayson Allen, Royce O'Neale, and an unprotected 2033 first-round draft pick.

The move comes just days after Charlotte made headlines by trading star guard LaMelo Ball to the Minnesota Timberwolves, signaling a significant shift in the franchise’s long-term direction. The Hornets have also strengthened their roster by re-signing guard Coby White to a three-year contract worth $74 million.

Bridges played a crucial role in Charlotte’s resurgence during the 2025-26 season. After winning only 19 games the previous year, the Hornets improved dramatically, finishing with 44 victories and narrowly missing a playoff berth. His leadership, physical presence, and defensive intensity helped guide a young core that includes Brandon Miller and rising prospect Kon Knueppel.

Despite taking on a smaller offensive role, Bridges averaged 17.1 points and 5.8 rebounds per game last season while contributing significantly on both ends of the floor. His experience and toughness were key factors behind Charlotte’s remarkable turnaround during the second half of the season.

For Phoenix, acquiring the 28-year-old forward adds versatility and athleticism while also creating financial flexibility. The Suns reportedly save approximately $20 million in luxury-tax obligations while opening an additional roster spot ahead of free agency.

Meanwhile, Charlotte gains two experienced veterans in Allen and O'Neale, along with a valuable future first-round pick that could play an important role in the organization's rebuilding plans.

Bridges spent his entire NBA career with the Hornets after entering the league in 2018. He now joins a Suns organization with strong ties to Michigan State University, including owner Mat Ishbia, general manager Brian Gregory, and head coach Jordan Ott.

The veteran forward has one season remaining on the contract he signed in 2024 and is expected to be a key contributor for Phoenix as the team pursues championship aspirations.

Orlando Magic Part Ways with Jonathan Isaac

In a separate roster move, the Orlando Magic have waived veteran forward Jonathan Isaac before his contract became fully guaranteed.

The decision allows Orlando to reduce its financial commitments while creating additional flexibility heading into free agency. Although the Magic remain responsible for a portion of Isaac’s salary, the move opens opportunities for both sides moving forward.

Selected sixth overall in the 2017 NBA Draft, Isaac showed flashes of elite defensive potential throughout his career but struggled with injuries for extended periods. He missed two full seasons after suffering a torn ACL and was limited to just 52 appearances during the 2025-26 campaign.

Last season, Isaac averaged 2.6 points and 2.5 rebounds per game before a knee injury sidelined him for the final stretch of the regular season and Orlando’s playoff series against Detroit.

After nine seasons with the Magic, Isaac now enters free agency seeking a new opportunity to revive his career and contribute to a contender in the next chapter of his NBA journey.
